Time flies
when you are having a good time and it’s hard to believe but
we are only about 4 weeks away from the
pinnacle of horse racing and the Breeders’ Cup.
Bettors will be flocking to Monmouth Park
in New Jersey either physically or over
the various computer outlets and there
are angles they should be aware of as the
event approaches.
In the coming days we will isolate a ton
of horses that are coming to the big payday
on top of their games and we will point
bettors in the right direction.
For the first time in history, gamblers
will be looking at a 2-day event and an
expansion of the races to 11 frays.
On Friday October 26, the new races all
offering million-dollar purses are the
Dirt Mile, at a mile and 70 years for 3
and up, the F and M Sprint at 6 furlongs,
and the Juvenile Turf, at a mile for all.
On Saturday October 27, the normal fare
will be showcased ending with the $5 million
BC Classic.
These new races add to the difficulty
of the day but bettors can prepare for
these new events and the other 8 by concentrating
on a few angles that just may be utilized.
Inside speed has always been effective
at Monmouth and the Dirt Mile could very
well be more like a track meet. Expect
local horses to have an edge even though
they appear overmatched.
The F and M Sprint gives distaffers an
option rather than taking on the boys and
you heard it here first, bettors can look
for this race to be run almost as fast
as the males.
Bettors can get out the dart board for
the Juvenile Turf and if bettors do one
thing right on BC Day this year, it will
be NOT to swallow chalk in this race.
Because these babies are still growing
up and because on the turf, runners can
improve by double-digit lengths overnight,
this race is begging for a long shot winner.
Look for a horse that is lightly raced,
has tactical speed, and has grass breeding
through his blood and stay away from horses
that have already peaked. For bettors,
this race will be about peaking TODAY.
With different
Breeders’ Cup venues
yearly, there really are no tried and true
angles when talking about these classic
races but there are a couple of guidelines
that bettors can use to stay focused and
pick winners on the big day.
First, bettors have to avoid the temptation
of getting caught up in the hype of the
extravaganza and stick with solid, principled
handicapping tactics when analyzing the
races. Remember, every race is about pace
and how it will unfold and not always about
the sensational unbeaten European superstar
or the streaking American bullet who has
not lost yet.
Project how each race will set up and
bettors will be much more likely to find
the winner at the end of the day.
Another thing bettors have to think about
as the BC Day nears is the true intention
of all the entrants.
Isolate barns and connections that have
pointed for Cup for months and have mapped
out a game plan that will allow their horse
to peak when the money is down.
And stay away like a plague from connections
that are waffling until the eleventh hour
about which race a horse will enter.
On this day more than any other, you have
to have the courage of your convictions
and a blueprint to succeed.
